Travis Miranda graduated from the State University of New York college of Environmental Science and Forestry Syracuse with a BS Forest Resource Management (Forestry) in 2003. He served as a state public land manager most of his career with three different agencies. He was also a WA State regulator with the Department of Natural Resources Forest Practices. He went on to become District Manager for WA State lands in NW Region. Travis formed Roots Forestry Consulting in 2015 after recognizing a need for forestry consultants in NW Washington. Travis has experience in nearly every facet of the industry, including everything from large scale land management, timber cruising, log marketing, and Forest Practice rule enforcement, to tree falling and log truck driving. In the few moments he isn't working on growing Roots Forestry, Travis enjoys fly-fishing, hiking, and camping.
Matt Grund was recruited to join Travis at Roots Forestry in early 2016, after Travis realized he would need help keeping up with the demand for consulting services. Matt worked out of Jerry Franklin's lab while earning a Master of Forest Resources degree from the University of Washington, and also possesses a B.S. in Environmental Biology from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. Matt has over ten years of forestry experience in Washington State, including the Department of Natural Resources and the Cedar River Watershed.
Mike Olson joined Roots Forestry Consulting, LLC in 2018. Prior to Roots, Mike has several years of professional forestry experience with the Washington DNR and Sierra Pacific Industries. He holds a Master’s Degree in Natural Resources from the University of Vermont as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. In his free time he enjoys hiking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, and volunteering with the Skagit Land Trust.
Doug Cochran joined Roots Forestry Consulting, LLC in 2018. Doug has over 10 years of professional forestry experience and worked in pre-sales, contract administration, and timber cruising for Washington DNR before joining the Roots team. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Products/Timber Harvesting from the University of Idaho and studied forest resources at the University of Tennessee. Doug also enjoys sailing, hunting, and nature observation.
